Cahors, enclosed by a meander in the Lot River and overlooked by rocky hills, was a flourishing commercial and university city in the Middle Ages and still retains precious vestiges of the past. As a tourist centre, the former capital of Quercy is an excellent starting point for tours of the Célé and Lot Valleys. Cahors is about 30 mins by car from the house. A bus service operates several times a day between Fumel and Cahors which includes a stop opposite the house.
The most well known landmark in Cahors is the Pont Valentré, shown above, built in the 14th Century.
